I did the internship with HFIG in 2014 while I was studying Coastal Marine Biology at university in Scarborough. I enjoyed every minute and there was always a great atmosphere on the boat, making the long days pass with ease.
The internship gave me the opportunity to gain experience that I would have otherwise found difficult to come by, such as working onboard a boat and handling live catch, to name a few. The experience I gained, although over a short period, cemented what I wanted to do after finishing university and gave me something to call on when applying for jobs. The people I met and experience I gain, set me in good stead when the job I wanted eventually came up, setting me a little apart from many of the other applicants.
Since starting my job in the fisheries science sector, I have done further work with Mike and Jamie, which is testament to the great working atmosphere they create.
